Atrocities on Women Have Become Rampant Under Modi Regime – WIM President Mehrunnisa Khan
Bangalore 24 Sept. 2018: Women India Movement (WIM), a pan India women’s organization aims to organize and educate women socially and politically enabling them to take part in the mainstream conducted a mega convention at Paalana Bhavan, Bangalore.
The organization recently completed its 3 year term, discussed its work report of the previous term and elected new leadership for the next term in its internal election. Mrs. Mehrunnisa Khan of Jaipur was elected as the President of the organization, whereas West Bengal’s Yasmin Islam was elected as the General Secretary. The other office bearers are, Vice President Kumkum Ben from Gujarat, Raihanat from Kerala, Tarana Sharfuddin from Uttar Pradesh are the Secretaries and Ayesha Bajpe from Karnataka is the Treasurer.
The newly elected president Mehrunnisa Khan slammed the Modi led government of doing nothing towards the safety of women and accused him of wandering around the globe utterly ignoring the terrible condition of women in the country. Mehrunnisa said, Prime Minister Modi is only concerned about the Muslim women and not their issues, hence passed an ordinance which is against the Constitution.
Newly elected President of Karnataka Shahida Tasneem lashed out at the BJP government for its high handedness in several cases of rape in which BJP leaders or workers are accused. Shahida said, women of the country are facing plenty of problems like unemployment, sexual abuse. But rather than solving their very problems, the BJP government is playing petty politics over triple-talaq for its vote-bank politics.
Eminent activist and former cabinet minister B.T Lalita Naik came on heavily over PM Modi for his government’s move to bring in an ordinance passing the black law on triple-talaq. Naik in her address to a massive gathering said, the Prime Minister who talks about triple-talaq should tell the nation about his wife.
The newly elected office bearers of the organization inauturated a 6 month long awareness campaign to be held countrywide to make women aware, organize and educate them so as to bring out a change in the society. The campaign entitled ‘STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN’ with the slogan ‘Let’s Fight for Our Security’.
Several prominent civil rights activists participated in the event and delivered their addresses. Some of the distinguished personalities who shared the dais were, SDPI National Vice President Professor Nazneen Begum, Federation of Tamil Nadu Muslim Women Convener Fathima Musaffar, Social Activist Mallige, All India Muslim Personal Law Board Members Yasmeen Farooqui and Dr. Asma Zehra and Former Principal of Abbas Khan College Professor Khalid Parveen.
