UP and Karnataka top the communal incidents chart
New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka top among the close to 300 communal incidents which have been reported in the country in the initial five months this year.
In a total of 296 communal incidents, 44 people lost their lives and 892 suffered injuries. Of the total count, Karnataka puts at 36 whereas UP accounts 60. Those among the killed were 16 from UP and 151 injured whereas 3 are killed and 93 injured in Karnataka.
Other states were higher number of communal incidents reported this year were Madhya Pradesh (29), Rajasthan (27), West Bengal (26), Bihar (23) and Gujarat and Maharashtra (20 each), according to a written reply in Lok Sabha on Monday.
