Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has expressed grievance over the death of the renowned scholar Mufti Ashraf Ali Baqavi and paid respects by visiting the Arabic College.

Bangalore/Bengaluru 08 Sept. 2017: With the passing away of Sheikh Mufti Ashraf Ali, the rector and Shaikh-ul-Hadith of Dar-ul-Uloom Sabeel-ur-Rashaad, we have lost a great teacher. He was soft-spoken, tender and always smiling. His profound scholarly knowledge was legendary, said Moulana Ansar Aziz Nadwi, on the sad demise of the Ameer e Shariyat.

MLC Karnataka Rizwan Arshad said, Hazrat Ashraf Ali Sahab was not just a scholar but a religious leader as well as he was always keenly interested in the community affairs, finding issues and conveying his best propositions towards finding resolutions to the community issues.

In a press statement, Karnataka State President Popular Front of India Mohammed Saqib expressed grief and said, the demise of Hazrat Mufti Ashraf Ali Baqavi is indeed a very big loss for the Muslim community. My sincere condolence to his family, relatives and students. The community has today lost a very prominent personality. His contributions to the community and society will always be remembered.

MLA Zameer Ahmed Khan said, Hazrat Ashraf Ali Baqavi has always been demonstrative of forming and seeing unity even among the political leadership as he several times advised us all to be united even with the secular intellects apart from the Muslim leadership in order to effectively serve the community and common people at large.

Late Hazrat Ashraf Ali Baqavi’s close aid Mufti Rifayi, who has been working very closely with him for around 35 years in the Madarsa, expressed sorrow and termed his death as a biggest loss not only to the community but for the country as has always advocated for peace, harmony and unity among the country’s brethren irrespective of religious lines.

The campus of Madarsa Sabeel-ur-Rashad, popular known as Arabic College, was flooded with people from different walk of life, leaders belonging to different socio-political organizations visited to see a glimpse of the dear departed teacher and paid their condolence to the highly ranking outstanding scholar. According to sources, Late Hazrat Ashraf Ali was either associated with and patronized several organizations including Milli Council, All India Muslim Personal Law Board and Popular Front of India.

This grand mufti “Ameer e Shariyat” of Karnataka, was 77 years old and passed away in a hospital in the late night on Thursday. The revered scholar was survived by 6 children.

His last rights will be performed on Saturday 9 September at 10 am at Arabic College, Bangalore.
