Mohan Bhagwat to RSS Cadre: Unite Lingayats and Veerashaivas
Bengaluru: The ongoing demand for a separate religion for Lingayats in Karnataka is not being digested by the RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat. He has given a call to his RSS members to work for the unity of Lingayats and Veerashaivas as these are the two major chunk of population which play decisive role in Karnataka politics.
Bhagwat told Sangh workers to purpose the Lingayat religious heads and leaders and sure that they withdraw their demand for a separate religion.
Bhagwat gave a call for unity among the Lingayats and Veerashaivas by eradicating the misunderstandings so that they stay united by bridging the gap.
A demand for separate religious status for Lingayat gained momentum recently in the state, but a confusion over the identity of the Lingayats and the Veerashaivas seems to be an impediment on the path to separate religionhood.
Meanwhile, the issue has gained political importance. The ruling Congress party, which fails to have a charismatic Lingayat leader onboard has played up the card well by evincing that it is for this demand. However, the BJP too is in consensus with the demand, specifically with Lingayat strongman being showcased as the next CM of the state. But, with the RSS talking out straight, one may have to wait and watch what stand the BJP will be taking in future.
