Bangalore: IIIT-B will hold the 17th Convocation ceremony of its graduates on July 2, 2017, in the institute premises in Electronic City. Prof. Indranil Manna, Director, IIT-Kanpur will be the chief guest and Dr. Subash Chandra Khuntia, IAS, Chief Secretary of Karnataka will be the guest of honor at the event.
This will be a special occasion for IIIT-B as over 250 students graduate from post-graduate programmes such as Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Science by Research, M.Tech. in Information Technology, M.Tech. in Electronics System Design, Sponsored M.Tech., Integrated M.Tech. and M.Sc. (Digital Society).
Integrated M.Tech.: IIIT-B introduced Integrated M.Tech. programme in 2012. Integrated M.Tech. (iM.Tech) programme is a five-year full time programme intended for students who have passed or are appearing for Senior Secondary (Plus Two) examination with Mathematics or equivalent subject. At the end of five years, graduates earn an M.Tech. degree. This programme is a unique mix of core computer science courses as well as advanced courses encompassing varied specializations in Computer Science.
The first graduating batch has made the institute proud by winning numerous national and international hackathons such as Hilti Mobile App Competition, SwissRe Hack, Applift Datathon, etc. The students have also presented their research work at top-notch technical conferences such as CRYPTO 2017, AAMAS 2017, ACM Compute 2016, INDICON 2016, etc. Some of the students have successfully completed research internships at universities such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge), RMIT (Melbourne), Hasso Plattner Institute (Berlin), University of British Columbia (Vancouver), University of Alabama (Alabama), etc. These students will be joining some of the leading tech companies such as Amazon, Morgan Stanley, Walmart Labs, Samsung Research, Hilti, IBM R&D, Cisco, etc. The average package offered to these students is 17.5 LPA and the offers include three international placements.
M.Sc. (Digital Society): IIIT-B started the Masters Programme in Digital Society in 2015. This 2-year programme seeks to train students with a background in any discipline to work at the intersection of social sciences and information technology. India’s capabilities to train those who can produce outstanding information technology products and services has been evident over the last two decades. This first-of-its-kind programme in the country is designed to create professionals who will conceptualize and design digital technologies for diverse social groups; provide and manage solutions that address persistent developmental challenges in domains such as health, education and governance; and engage in policy making and advocacy for deploying digital technologies.
As a part of the curricular requirements, students have undergone short-term/long-term internships in companies such as Deloitte (Social Sector Consulting), Microsoft Research (Technology for Emerging Markets), NIMHANS and World Resources Institute. They have been offered full-time employment in organizations like Coviam Technologies, Daimler Financial Services, Everwell Health Solutions, e-Government Foundation for roles ranging from user experience researcher, product management associate, business analyst, and digital marketing executive. The average package offered to these students is 7.5 LPA. In the current year, Microsoft India and Hewlett-Packard have provided scholarships for students enrolled in this programme.
Ms. Vidhya, who is 100% visually impaired has topped the 1st batch of the programme. She has done her internship with Microsoft Research and has performed admirably well. She now wants to work on designing technologies that are of relevance to persons with disability, especially visually impaired children who are not able to take up Mathematics and Science in school.
